Learn about Daily Hygiene for Baby

The initial period for babies are the most vulnerable as they can catch infections quite easily.  Everyone is excited to catch a glimpse of your new arrival but you are worried that your baby would catch some germs.  Some diseases are caused by microorganism that is not visible to naked eyes and can prove to be hazard to your baby’s health. Your baby’s immune system is weak as he hasn’t got all his vaccination just yet. They are too delicate to be given over-the-counter (OTC) medicines as they can do more harm than good.  The baby must be shielded for minimum first three to six months.  Thus, it is always best to adopt good hygiene practice within your home and outside.

Hands down

Get used to rinsing your hands with mild soap and water every time before you reach out for your baby.  It wouldn’t be a bad idea to wash your baby’s hands regularly too.  Insist that even your healthy guest should wash their hands thoroughly.  A good hygiene begins with germs-free hands.

Snappy nappy

Regular checks on your baby’s nappy after every couple of hours will keep the dampness and infections at bay.  Gently wipe clean your baby’s bum and genitals with fragrance free baby wipes or mild liquid baby cleanser immediately after your baby discharges.  In order to prevent bacteria transferring from your baby’s bottom to the genitals, it is generally advised to wipe from front to back motion.  Allow it to dry before you put on another dry and clean diaper.  Ensure that the baby remains dry and moisturized near their private parts.  You could also leave your baby nappy-free once in a while if you sense irritation or redness surfacing.   Remember your baby’s skin is extremely delicate so only purchase soft wipes or untouched cotton wool and mild cleansing liquid to clean your baby’s genitals and bottoms to prevent damage to their tender skin.

Strike the right cord

It takes about fifteen days or less for the umbilical cord to fall off automatically.  The baby’s umbilical stump needs to be kept clean and free from infections before it drops off.  You can maintain good hygiene around the stump while bathing the baby or changing the nappy.  Gently pat dry after cleaning the stump with water.  Do not rub harshly.  The cord needs to be kept dry if you want swift healing.  Dress your baby with soft and loose clothes to avoid friction and soreness to the cord.

Tales of the nails

Awww!  Those tiny hands and miniature soft fingers look so cute!  However, those micro nails become challenging when time comes to trim them down.  You are gripped with fear of cutting your baby’s fingertips each time when you have to trim their nails.  Take help from someone to work with you or you can also do it when your baby is asleep.  Use a pair of baby scissors to trim the nails when you have enough light to see them.

Your baby’s good health can be possible if your mend way to create a hygienic home.  Remember that prevention is the best cure.
